How to connect to a WEP encrypted router
I noticed that it doesn’t work if you enter the passphrase, because the router has a problem with the encryped hash (you have to have a Windows or other OS from where you can get the hash)
- Boot Windows, connect to the router, everything works fine.
- Download the aircrack Package for Windows http://download.aircrack-ng.org/aircrack-ng-0.9.3-win.zip
- Start the “wzcook.exe” and it will show you all saved WLAN hashes and saves it to “C:/wepckeys.txt”
- Boot Linux, start the KNetworkmanager and enter the hash from the wanted router (without the long 000000 line)
- Change from “Passphrase (128 bit)” to “Hex Key(64 or 128 bit)”
- And that was it and it should work
How to turn of the KNetworkmanager/KDE3
It nerved me, evertime I logged on, I had the KNetworkmanager/KDE3 and the KNetworkmanager/KDE4.
I didn’t want to delete the KDE3 KNetworkmanager, because I don’t trust the new KNetworkmanager for 100%, so after a while searching I found the setting where to kick the old KNetworkmanager out of the Autostart.
go to “/.kde/share/config/” and there take a little change in the “knetworkmanagerrc” file.
